Future Hope is a charitable organisation which provides opportunity through its homes, school, sports and medical programme for some of the most vulnerable children from the streets and slums of Kolkata, India. The charity uses rugby in particular to instil discipline and a sense of purpose in many of the children; some of these children have even gone on to represent India at rugby.

Harlequins have had a long association with the charity called Future Hope whose rugby team have become affiliated to the Premiership rugby club and are now known as the Future Hope Harlequins. Over the last 20 years, Harlequins Senior players have visited numerous times to deliver coaching and equipment – inspiring the next generation of local players.

More information on the charity can be found here.

Here, two young Future Hope rugby players tell us how the game has changed their lives, especially after working with the three Harlequins Senior Squad players who travelled to India last summer – RPA Chairman Mark Lambert, and Flankers Luke Wallace and James Chisholm.

We are delighted to be able to introduce the new coaching team for 2019. Coach Roy will now be supported by a number of additional coaches to deliver the expanded programme in 2019.

We are delighted to announce a new partnership between the Lesotho Rugby Academy and the Harlequins Foundation. Also supported by Dolen Cymru and the Atlas Foundation , together we’ve kicked off 2019 in a really strong position to continue improving the lives of young people in Lesotho through rugby.

On the back of Harlequins Foundation CEO Marc Leckie’s visit to Lesotho in January 2019 we begin 3-year partnership, providing core support to the Lesotho Rugby Academy as well as specifically funding two new coaching positions.

Lesotho Rugby Academy will also join the Harlequins Foundation’s Rugby Young Leaders programme, which will connect Young Leaders involved in the sport around the world. In the future this will create opportunities for UK based Leaders to visit Lesotho and Basotho to visit the UK to share best practice in using rugby to change lives and inspire, enable and encourage young people to have a positive impact in their communities.
