The Harlequins Foundation & Sport Impact are teaming up to provide meaningful entry routes into Coaching, PE & School Sports, and support schools in Hounslow, Richmond & Kingston at the same time.
As part of the UK Government’s latest employment & training scheme, ‘Kickstart’, both The Harlequins Foundation and Sport Impact have been approved as employers and will begin recruiting for the newly created role of ‘School Sports Assistant’ in March 2021. Our shared aim is to deploy between 1-2 candidates per school to provide 25 hours per week of meaningful support during the entire summer term. As things stand, all candidates will support The Harlequins Foundation and Sport Impact to deliver Holiday Hunger & Activities initiative during the Easter & Summer breaks.
As part of the Kickstart scheme, each School Sports Assistant will complete a 6-month work placement, employed by either The Harlequins Foundation or Sport Impact. The scheme, which is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions, will enable each School Sport Assistant to provide support for 25 hours per week to their host school.
Some examples of placement responsibilities may include (not exhaustive); supporting and/ or leading the provision of extracurricular clubs; managing, maintaining and auditing school PE and sports kit; monitoring and tracking attendances/ managing lesson registers; supporting with school fixtures and training sessions.
Each candidate will be fully vetted, recruited and trained by both The Harlequins Foundation and Sport Impact prior to deployment. As such, in addition to the above responsibilities, each candidate will also be trained on how to deliver programmes such as; METTLE, Hitz on Track (secondary), Project Rugby (secondary), Tackling Health (primary), Premiership Rugby Champions (primary), Harlequins EDU (primary) and ‘Robot Rugby’ coding experience days.
Each organisation is currently asking schools who would be interested in hosting a ‘School Sport Assistant’ during the summer term to express their interest by completing the following short Host School Survey by Monday 1st March.
Please note that recruitment timescales are dependant on referrals from DWP & JobCentre Plus, there are a limited number of placements available that will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.
